Controls: Standard controls for Motocross Outlaw are: up key to accelerate, down key to brake, left to lean the bike left and right key to lean it right. Press SPACE to jump, and 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 to perform motocross tricks!
First of all this particular game is unique for many reasons both good and bad. I really admire the achievement and unlockable items system, being that it increases the time that you want to play because of the strive for competitive accomplishment. There are also various types of motorcycles you can choose from later in the game, (after they are unlocked of coarse.) Each motorcycle has it's own set of stats. Some being either faster, more maneuverable, or in some cases more slick looking than others. Also, unlike many other arcade style motocross games I have played, there is a system of tricks that you start out with and unlock as you progress in the game. Each trick has it's own amount of points that the game will reward you for pulling off. Or, you can string together a series of tricks in one jump to hit a point jackpot. This was something I thought was very unique about this game in particular.
Also instead of just rushing through each level without any real challenge, there is another CPU player (the computer) that races right along side you. But that's not all, in order to even complete the track you must first complete a set of challenges provided to you before each race. Some challenges require you to complete certain stunts, a certain score, or the entire track in under a certain amount of time. Another interesting twist to the game, if you fail to complete the challenge but win the race, you still lose. This is the same the other way around as well. The riding tracks in this game are also more complicated and more elaborate than you will usually find in most arcade style motocross games. These maps are full of loop the loops, huge mountains, big air ramps, and steep hills that require some skill to conquer that you will accumulate as you get used to the game.
Now, I would like to talk about the cons of this game because there are a lot that stood out to me in particular. First of all the control keys are a little too touchy. Pressing slightly too hard on the directional keys sometimes sends your biker spinning in the direction of the key you pressed. This can get a little frustrating at times. Also something I noticed a lot, your controls aren't always so responsive. When in the middle of a backflip or trick any attempt to stop is almost impossible at times. Another issue that was hard to overlook would have to be the pace at which your motorcycle travels that is almost too fast at the beginning and only increases as you unlock more bikes. This tends to give you a headache and can be very frustrating because it is extremely difficult to see any upcoming obstacles. Also, (and I played this game on other websites to make sure this was the case,) the character size is far too small and makes for an even larger headache after squinting for so long during gameplay. So to wrap it all up, my rating for Motocross outlaw would have to be a 8 out of 10.
